House Fire

On September 30, 2010 at 12:48 AM Greendale Fire Dept. and Greendale EMS were called to 234 Feller Ave. for a report of a structure fire with a person trapped inside. Police units were first to arrive on the scene and attempted to rescue the person. They were forced away by the smoke and heat. Fire units arrived and located the person inside a bedroom in the single story residence. Hollis Biggs was rescued from the building by Greendale firefighters and then transported to the Greendale Park by Greendale EMS, where University Air Care transferred him to University Hospital in Cincinnati. The fire was contained to the bedroom in which Biggs was in. The fire was under control by 1:17AM. The residence is owned by Carolyn Williams of Greendale. Hollis Biggs lives at the residence with his son, Shawn Biggs, along with Shawn’s wife Melissa and their infant daughter. The fire has been ruled accidental by investigators from the Greendale and Lawrenceburg Fire Depts. As of 9:00 AM Hollis Biggs was in fair condition at University Hospital. There were no other injuries reported. Greendale Fire Dept and Greendale EMS were assisted by: Greendale Police, Dearborn Co. Sheriff’s Dept, Lawrenceburg Fire, Lawrenceburg EMS, Lawrenceburg Police, Bright Fire, University Air Care, and Greendale Utilities.

  Fire

On May 6, 2010 at 7:05 PM, Greendale Fire & EMS were dispatched to IN-PLAS Recycling at 205 Brown St. for a reported fire alarm in the building. Upon arrival fire units found heavy smoke showing and the automatic sprinkler system activated. A fire was found in the first floor of a six story building. Fire crews had the fire under control in a short time later. At 7:43 PM the fire was called under control by command and units remained on the scene for cleanup and investigation until 9:15 PM. The fire was ruled accidental in nature by fire investigators. Greendale Fire Dept. was assisted at the scene by Lawrenceburg, Aurora, and Bright Fire Depts.

  Busy April

Greendale Fire Dept responded to ten (10) significant calls beginning on April 5th at 4:22 PM through April 11th at 12:00AM.

On April 5th at 4:22 PM, Greendale Fire & EMS were dispatched to The Comfort Inn for a fire alarm. Crews arrived and found the alarm to be caused by a cooking accident.

On April 6th at 4:57 PM, units were called to the intersection of Ridge Ave and Tebbs Ave for a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival found a two car crash. One person was treated and released at the scene and one was transported to Dearborn County Hospital.

On April 7th at 12:00 PM, Greendale Fire & EMS and Lawrenceburg Fire & EMS were called to Lawrenceburg Distillery at 7 Ridge Ave. Dispatch initially advised that it was a possible grain fire. Arriving units found a small alcohol spill inside the plant. Greendale and Lawrenceburg were assisted by personal from Aurora FD, Dillsboro FD, Bright FD, Moores Hill FD, Whitewater Twp FD, and Harrison FD.

On April 7th at 4:04 PM, a field fire was reported to be along I-275 in the area of Horseshoe Campground. Fire units were called off while en route after being advised that it was a control burn.

On April 7th at 6:44 PM, Greendale FD was called to assist Lawrenceburg Fire on a structure fire at 535 Arch St. Greendale FD units remained on the scene until 8:00 PM.

On April 7th at 7:41 PM, Greendale FD was called back to the Horseshoe Campground to extinguish the control burn. The fire had become unattended and dispatch centers were getting flooded with calls. Greendale FD was assisted on the scene by Bright FD.

On April 8th at 08:57 AM, Greendale Fire & EMS were called to I-275 NB near the 17 mm for a single vehicle crash. Both occupants were transported to Dearborn County Hospital.

On April 8th at 3:42 PM, Greendale Fire & EMS were dispatched to the Holiday Inn Express for multiple fire alarm activations. Units arrived and found a faulty smoke detector had triggered the alarm.

On April 8th at 10:12 PM Greendale FD was called to assist Bright FD at 20384 Longview Dr in Hidden Valley Lake for a reported structure fire. Units assisted Bright Fire and remained on the scene until 11:22 PM.

On April 11, 2010, Greendale Fire Dept. & EMS responded to a mutual aid request by Whitewater Twp. Fire Dept. for a fire at the Elizabethtown Elementary School. Several departments from Indiana and Ohio responded to the scene. Greendale Fire was dispatched around 6:00 PM and remained on the scene until 12:00 AM. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

   200 Ridge Ave Structure Fire

On February 7, 2010 at 03:59 AM Greendale Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire with occupants possibly still inside at 200 Ridge Ave., in Greendale. Fire crews arrived and found heavy fire in the roof and attic area of the structure. After an initial search of the building and confirmation that all occupants were accounted for, an attack was made on the fire. The fire was contained to the attic and roof area. The building owned by William Green, had first floor and basement apartments. The first floor and basement received smoke and water damage. No other structures received damage. The Red Cross was called to assist with placement for tenants.

Fire investigators from the Greendale Fire Dept, Greendale Police Dept, and Aurora Fire Dept., ruled the cause of the fire to be electrical. Neither occupants nor fire personal were injured at the scene. Fire extinguishment was hampered by extreme cold temperatures, icing, and wind.Greendale Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Greendale EMS, Greendale Police, Lawrenceburg Fire & EMS, Aurora Fire Dept, Bright Fire Dept., Greendale Utilities, and The Red Cross. Over 32 personal assisted at the scene.
